The Specialist Teaching Assistant programme is designed for experienced teaching assistants seeking to develop advanced professional practice and specialist expertise.

The programme builds strong foundations in learner development, inclusive teaching, behaviour for learning, and assessment, before progressing into planning, evaluation of impact, and reflective practice.

Course fees

Apprenticeship courses are paid for by the employer and/or the UK government and learners are not required to contribute towards the course cost in any way.

- Meet apprenticeship funding eligibility criteria.
- Meet course suitability and initial assessment requirements in level 2 English and maths.
- To not already hold a teaching qualification at level 5 or above.

The Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship is the perfect programme for an enhanced-level teaching professional. Below are some examples of the knowledge, skills and behaviours you’ll develop as part of your apprenticeship.

As you approach the end of your apprenticeship, we allow for a three-month period for you to prepare for and sit your apprenticeship assessment. For this apprenticeship standard, you will be assessed in the following ways:

To make our apprenticeships as accessible as possible, all of our teaching is delivered online by our expert tutors. You’ll have access to our e-learning platform, Canvas, where you can access all of your lesson materials, additional resources and assignment submissions.
