Job title: Nursery Assistant – Apprenticeship

Location: Norwood, SE25

Wage: £175 per week

Start date: ASAP

Working hours: Monday to Friday / 40 hours per week

Time spent in training: You are required to spend a minimum of 8 hours per week in training that supports your apprenticeship course.

Course entry requirements: GCSEs at grade C/level 4 or above in English and Maths or equivalent

What is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship courses are developed by employers and professional bodies, ensuring apprentices study a curriculum that is tailored to real-world job roles. All our courses are accredited by an authorised awarding body or the Institute of Apprenticeships, guaranteeing you work towards an approved, professional certificate. Completing an apprenticeship will help you develop the knowledge and skills required to excel in your chosen career, providing a concrete foundation for future growth.

Apprenticeship courses available: Childcare Level 2

About the role:

My client provides a warm and friendly environment, where all children are encouraged to achieve to their full potential and where nursery life is fun, relaxed and positive. The setting provides childcare for 38 children from 6 months to 5 years. The nursery is a renovated home environment, however, they also provide French & Dance teaching to our children, and take them for outdoor swimming lessons.

Job duties and responsibilities:

  • To ensure the children are cared for in a happy, safe and stimulating environment
  • To actively encourage children’s learning and progress in all areas of development by interaction and extension of play activities
  • To work in partnership with the parents
  • To know and adhere to the pre-school’s operational and safety policies and procedures
  • To assist the Early Years Teacher with the short, medium and long term planning of the EYFS curriculum
  • To know and adhere to the pre-school’s operational and safety policies and procedures
  • To assist with children’s observations in accordance with the requirements of the EYFS framework and as instructed by the Early Years Teacher
  • To enrol and complete the applicable L2 or L3 childcare qualification course and any other training as required
  • To ensure that any information received concerning the children is kept confidential
  • To assist with the daily setting up and clearing away of all activities and equipment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills both with adults and children
  • An appreciation for child development and children’s needs
  • The ability to build relationships with parents and carers in order to encourage their involvement
  • The ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of literacy and numeracy and the ability to communicate clearly and accurately in spoken and written English
